Too good to be true? FreedomPop’s new SIM has free WhatsApp messages, data, and calls. Messaging apps that use data have replaced traditional SMS messages for many people, with WhatsApp being.
Quotefrom FreedomPop:The $.01 is applied to ensure that you have the capability to utilize our services by verifying the payment method on file. Please be advised that this will not affect your current monthly plan. For more information about this charge please, refer to our Service Plans Terms agreement by clicking Make sure to scroll down, and review the 'Active and Suspended Broadband and Phone Service' section. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you've experienced. Please send us a PM with your account information to further assist you and answer any questions that you have.I already have contacted you.
I was told the terms were changed to be quarterly billing to save me money. You stole $90.00 from me, and in total I was out 125$ in 40 days for service I was never able to get activated on my phone (my fault it wasn't compatible).
I expected to be out 30.00 not 125.Anyone who signs up for any of your deals needs to print all terms and documents you sneak in and regularly/continuously view the terms as they are subject to change at a whim.Buyer beware. Quotefrom ghostofposterspast:If that was the case, why are we being charged a penny even though we already have a credit at FP? Also, as we've pointed out, there is no need to charge anything to verify a CC.
Why the penny?A valid credit card must be assigned to a FreedomPop account at all times even on the free plan in order to avoid any disruption to the service. The $.01 is to verify if the credit card currently assigned to the account is valid. We will take into consideration the suggestion that you have provided.

The $.01 is to verify if the credit card currently assigned to the account is valid. We will take into consideration the suggestion that you have provided. As has been repeatedly pointed out. There is no need to charge anything to verify a credit card. Many companies do it charging $0. Other companies do it using an authorization and then letting it fall off with no charge posted.
So that doesn't explain why FP pushes the penny charge all the way through.I just don't get why FP is being this way about it. If the free plan is now a penny plan, just say so. That would still be a deal to many.
This insistence that it's still 'free' and the inconsistent application of the penny charge is leaving a bad taste in many mouths. It's poor marketing. Quotefrom FreedomPop:Thank you very much for the feedback!
The goal of the $.01 charge is to ensure that there is no disruption with your service of any kind. The free plan is the best value out there! You're right: The free plan is the best value out there!
Quotefrom HunterOne:BUT be COMPLETELY up front and HONEST about it.Exactly. The penny charge is a penny charge, it's a penny. My problem is how they are presenting the penny charge.
Their explanation of why there is a penny charge doesn't square with the reality of how the penny charge has been implemented. Also, no customer service is OK for a free account. But once someone starts paying, even a penny, then that's completely unacceptable. Especially when FP has a history of sending people to collections and the FP rep on SD has repeatedly not answered the question of whether they would send a person to collections for an unpaid penny charge. Considering how many people got 'free' FP accounts to use as backup phones in the glovebox or got FP modems that have long since stopped working. There was no reason for these people to expect any charges for a 'free' unused account.
Thus no reason to keep their CC's up to date.FP needs to come out clearly and state what their real policies are. An explanation that matches the reality of what they are doing. Quotefrom semifast:getting the 'free' Sprint plan costs way more than a penny now and then. And all of your ranting about Freedompop's 'free' plan not being free applies in spades to Sprint's 'free' plan. The only cost for the Sprint free plan is the monthly taxes which are about $3-$4 per month or so, and the Sim card that you can get for around $3.00 or free.BUT, you get WAY.
MORE of what you get with FP.Like UNLIMITED everything, no throttling, 10Gb hotspot, REAL cell voice, and did I mention FREE live and reachable SERVICE???That's really great for a free year of cell service. And as I said before, a year from now cell services will have other great deals.I hope FP has gotten its game together and is still alive AND competitive a year from now, but from the way things look right now that's doubtful.
